Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport asks in today’s paper if “Icardi, has in great secrecy, already renewed his contract with Inter?”

According to the report, the Nerazzurri captain may have already extended his agreement with the club until the end of June 2023. It was said this would be a turbulent summer with interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid but instead, everything went smoothly.

This summer Wanda, the wife and agent of Icardi, has not even felt the need to get nervous and yet, after her husband’s excellent season there would be room to call for offers or demand excessive requests from Inter.

None of this happened, instead Icardi, despite the option of the €110 million release clause valid only for foreign countries and expiring on July 15, has always remained at the fringes of the transfer market.

Why? Well, the simplest answer, which no one involved has yet confirmed, is that the renewal, until 2023, was already done before the Icardi family left for their holidays.

Perhaps the signatures on the contracts have not yet been put on the contract, but it would not be surprising if the agreement reached was enough to deter any offers or advances of other clubs.

According to Corriere a compromise between Wanda’s request of €8 million per season and Inter’s offer of €6.5 million net per season was met and also an apparent agreement of the increase of the minimum release clause to at least €160 million. If this really is the case then all that remains is to wait for the official confirmation from Inter and Icardi.
