Inter’s Dutch international defender stopped by Inter TV to share his thoughts on the defeat away at the Stadio Mapei against Sassuolo in the opening fixture of the 2018/2019 Serie A campaign.

The former Lazio defender was disappointed stating that: “It is a shame, we wanted to win but unfortunately we were unable to pull it off. This was not the start to the season that we wanted. We struggled when playing the ball and we were a bit imprecise and suffered too many counterattacks.”

The Dutchman who made his official debut for the Nerazzurri tonight since leaving Lazio in the summer continued stating that: “In the second half we had to look to score a goal even more than before, meanwhile being fully aware of not losing our balance and things improved.”

In conclusion he was asked what he expects from the fans next week when Inter host Torino at home at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milano’s San Siro district as well as his chance to equalize: “The fans are always very important, I really enjoyed seeing so many of them here. It is a great stimulus for us. It would have been nice to score but unfortunately the goalkeeper saved it.”
