Italian pundit Luigi Garlando reviewed Inter’s performance in their 1-0 opening day defeat to Sassuolo in his weekly column for Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Spalletti’s Inter was chosen by Juventus’ Allegri as the number one danger but they have collapsed at the first hurdle. All the big teams had problems but the difference is that Juventus, Napoli and Roma all still won.

“There were expected difficulties in the build up as Modric did not arrive but Sassuolo does not have Modric, yet he they managed to create things and do so with both personality and courage”

Garlando also spoke on Lautaro Martinez, who starred in pre-season but struggled to bring that kind of performance in to his Serie A debut.

“Lautaro discovered that Serie A is far different to Argentina, the friendlies were just walks in the park in comparison. He is young and he will settle.”

Garlando concluded by reminding fans that this is only the start of the season and there is still a long way to go.

“The road is still long but the false start, in disharmony with the other top clubs, certainly gnaws serenity and requires Spalletti to accelerate the recovery of the best players.”
