Inter manager Luciano Spalletti reflected on Inter’s 1-0 loss to Sassuolo at the Neroverdi’s MAPEI Stadium home in an interview with Sky Sport.

“Defeats like these always teach you many things but also puts you in trouble because then you have to work with zero points in the standings and above all training and playing without having the right enthusiasm always creates difficulties.”

Spalletti proceeded to talk on whether he believes the team were ready to react and on the pitch which proved troublesome to Inter’s game.

“In my opinion, the reaction was there from the team. We suffered from only a few counterattacks, we were not able to be there in the construction phase when we lost the ball and these counterattacks made us sink deeper into our own half.

“The pitch made it become difficult to control the ball. We can do better, but the difficulty was dictated by the spaces you have to play on this field here. You have to attack the spaces and it becomes easier to develop the plays but since the ball often throws you, however, you keep running and you have to open the field.

“It became difficult to attack, because we dribbled without being able to move the ball quickly, because the field did not allow us to. I think the conditions of the field have had a lot of influence on the game. We could have done better if it was on another pitch.”

Spalletti was then asked if the defeat has caused Inter to take a step back.

“The only real step back is the penalty, because in fact we lost the game from a shot from the penalty spot. We have not always been in difficulty nor were we dominated. We simply suffered two or three times where they were good and then, the key episode was the penalty.”

In conclusion, Spalletti was asked if he was worried about the defeat.

“There are 50 games left to play [laughs]. Maybe I have managed to go through some difficulties in my life. We lost on a penalty guys, come-on [laughs].”
