Former Italian international goalkeeper turned pundit Luca Marchegiani analysed Inter’s defeat to Sassuolo, firstly looking at the affect of not having Marcelo Brozovic on top form has on the defence.

“With the evolution of Brozovic it was thought that the problem was solved in midfield, but the Croatian can only play like that in some games, not all.

“The defence was always in trouble because they did not get a hand from the midfield, they always had to lower the line and there was little effectiveness in the defensive phase.”

Marchegiani then spoke on the penalty Sassuolo were awarded and the penalty that Inter did not get.

“It was not necessary for Miranda to hold the shirt, it was an instinctive gesture that Inter paid for. Asamoah? It depends on whether it is him who puts the body in front of the ball or not, it is a penalty that can be given certainly, although it is not a stone wall penalty.”

Marchegiani concluded by speaking more generally about the game as a whole.

“It’s an accident along the way and we can see how complicated the game was. I did not see any positive signs. the substitutions did not affect nor improve the game. What choice would I make to have changed the game? I think this team was built like that, there are no changes that could have changed the match.”
