Interim manager of the Argentine national team Lionel Scaloni spoke on his squad selection for the upcoming friendlies that sees the inclusions of Inter duo Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez in the squad as Argentina look to go in a new direction following their World Cup disaster and many players retiring from international duty.

“We believe that the guys we have called have enormous potential. We will try to give as many players a go as possible so that the future coach can choose. I feel the time has come for change and it is right to call these guys now,” Scaloni said in a press conference earlier today before proceeding to discuss Icardi, Martinez and Giovanni Simeone in particular.

“Icardi, Lautaro Martinez and Simeone are huge players. Mauro has been in elite football for a long time, but everyone can make their own contribution and we trust them all completely.”
