UEFA President Aleksandr Ceferin has rubbished reports that European football’s governing body intend to introduce VAR in to this season’s Champions League at the latter stages.
“I do not know where the suggestion came from, but we have not talked about it, and after all I am still not convinced by VAR,” Ceferin, who has held his position at the helm of UEFA since September 2016, explained in an interview with newspaper Ekipa in his native Slovenia..
“There are many unclear things like who decides whether to see the VAR, is it the video referee or the main referee? What things do the referees see and what don’t they see?
“Things are not clear, but we know that one day it will be necessary to use it, I told Roberto Rosetti [UEFA’s Head of referees]: when we are ready, we have to choose technology, referees. Because we play all over Europe, it is not just any old tournament and we need regulation.”
