Rafinha Alcantara is set to stay at Barcelona this season after talks over a deadline day move to Real Betis broke down on Friday, according to reports in the Catalan press.

The Brazilian spent the second half of the 2017-18 season on loan at Inter and impressed everyone with his performances in Serie A, but returned to his parent club in the summer after the Nerazzurri opted against exercising their €35 million option to buy for the player.

Several clubs elsewhere in Europe have been linked with the 25 year-old, but with only a handful of hours left until the transfer window closes in Spain it looks like Rafinha will remain a Barcelona player for the 2018-19 season.

Fellow La Liga outfit Real Betis were thought to be close to securing a deal, but Mundo Deportivo reported on Friday morning that talks had broken down over the formula of the signing.

Betis were keen to take Rafinha on loan with an option to buy, the same formula used by Inter in January, but Barcelona were only willing to consider an obligation to buy. Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso will join the Andalusian club instead.
