Inter will have to make significant improvements on their first two performances of the season if they are to qualify out of their UEFA Champions League group, according to Italian pundit Mario Sconcerti.

The Nerazzurri were expected to receive a tough group in Thursday’s draw after being placed in pot 4 and that was exactly what happened, as they were drawn against Barcelona, Tottenham and PSV Eindhoven.

Sconcerti does not give Luciano Spalletti’s side more than a 20% chance of reaching the last 16 and wrote in his Corriere della Sera column on Friday that they have the hardest task of all four Italian sides involved in Europe’s top club competition.

“Inter and Napoli are the teams with the hardest groups. Juventus’s draw isn’t straightforward either, but they remain the overwhelming favourites to top the group. Roma’s group is reasonable and spectacular at the same time.

“Napoli had the worst luck in the draw as they were in pot 2, a good pot, but Inter have the hardest task as they will have to eliminate either Barcelona or Tottenham.

“Tottenham are the English team which is most in fashion at the moment. They’re full of creative players and internationals and their only weakness is their practicality, their ability to harness all of their talent.

“They’re a very strong team and are constantly improving. It’ll take an Inter side that we haven’t seen yet to knock them out.

“These are the percentages chances I give each of the Italian sides: Juventus 85%, Napoli 30%, Roma 85%, Inter 20%.”
