Inter coach Luciano Spalletti has made his choice and decided to exclude Italian midfielder Roberto Gagliardini from the Nerazzurri squad list that will partake in the Champions League group stages against Barcelona, Tottenham and PSV Eindhoven.

This according to Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio who moments ago reported that after having tried to negotiate with UEFA up until only a few hours ago, the Nerazzurri coach has been left with no other choice than to exclude Gagliardini who together with Joao Mario, Dalbert and Berni are the first team players that will not be registered for the group stages of the Champions League.

All teams are allowed 25 players in the Champions League of which 4 players have to have come up through the club’s youth ranks and four players have to be homegrown. However, as part of the settlement agreement with UEFA regarding the Financial Fair Play rules Inter can only register 22 players for the group stages of the competition.

Furthermore, according to the agreement, the Nerazzurri have to have a fiscal balance in terms of fee’s paid and received with regards to transfers when compared to the squad that played in the Europe League during the 2016/2017 season, Di Marzio reports.
