Mauro Icardi will soon commit his future to Inter by penning a new deal until 2022 with the Nerazzurri, according to Tuttosport.

Icardi was linked with moves to Real Madrid and Chelsea in the summer as the player’s €110 million release clause became active at the start of July, but a move away from San Siro was never likely as neither side wished to step up their pursuit of the 25 year-old.

The Argentine is now on the verge of signing a new deal with Inter which will see him extend his current contract by another year, from 2021 until 2022, and increase his wages from the €5.4 million (bonuses included) he earns at the moment.

The Turin-based publication believe that wife and agent Wanda Nara has already reached an agreement with sporting director Piero Ausilio and that the club are simply waiting for the right moment to formalise and announce the deal.

“Inter and Icardi’s interests have become one and the same thing,” they wrote on Tuesday.

“The Argentine is captain of a team that will play in the Champions League this season and has been built to challenge Juventus, while Inter have found themselves an iconic player who can carry and spread the club’s DNA inside the dressing room.”

As proof of this, the paper cites the fact that Icardi chose to sleep at Inter’s training ground along with head coach Luciano Spalletti and the rest of his staff the night before pre-season training started, so that he was on hand to welcome each new arrival as they reached Appiano Gentile the following morning. The club is said to have very much appreciated the gesture.

“The low profile that Wanda Nara has maintained with regard to Icardi’s renewal ought not to have escaped people, and in that sense it’s worth remembering what Ausilio said about how the deal would be done away from the spotlight.”
