Tuttosport believe that Wanda Nara whether intentionally or unintentionally confirmed that the idea of a swap between Juventus and Inter involving Gonzalo Higuain and her husband Mauro Icardi was more than just paper talk.

“The intentions were clear from Juventus. Juve were looking for a great striker because they considered Higuain’s time at the club up. No one, until the words of Wanda on Monday night had directly confirmed the contacts.

“Inter probably never opened themselves up to the idea because to sell Icardi in Italy to the main antagonist was simply not in their plans. Inter would have accepted Higuain but were wanting a lot more money. However, the move never definitively took off because around mid-June when Juventus dealt for Joao Cancelo and especially with his agent Jorge Mendes, they learnt that what seemed like nothing more than a dream in signing Cristiano Ronaldo could be transformed into reality. This left Icardi as the second choice”

The Turin based newspaper hypothesised about what would have happened in the event that Ronaldo was not a possibility and also looked to the future.

“Icardi probably would not have said yes but now that is easy to say. Having become a second choice, one wonders how Icardi will react if in a couple of seasons Juventus should return to knock on his door.”
