Former Inter youth talent Nicolo Zaniolo’s father has recalled a time when his son was deemed not good enough in the wake of his call-up to the Italian national team for the upcoming fixtures with Poland and Portugal in the new UEFA Nations League.

“After three years at Fiorentina, they told us that he was not up to Fiorentina’s Primavera standard. The Virtus Entella staff done a good job sniffing him out and allowed him to make his debut in Serie B, before he left for Inter and Roma,” Igor Zaniolo explained in an interview with Il Secolo XIX.

He proceeded to speak on his son’s call-up under former Inter boss Roberto Mancini, who has called upon several young players in his first squad for competitive action since taking charge back in May.

“His attorney Stefano Castelnovo did not know if the national team call-up was true or not so Nicolò called the Roma team manager who confirmed it was true.”
