In an interview with Il Giornale, former Inter president Massimo Moratti has revealed he knocked back an opportunity to recently buy Bari and revealed his reasoning behind opting not to buy the club.

“I discussed it for a few days with my son and was flattered by the offer but then we decided to give up and not follow through because of the geographical distance from Puglia.

“I also gave up because if anything I know all to well what it entails and I know what the steps would be after the initial investment. For example, you do not want to get galvanised by the idea of buying a Brazilian or Uruguayan player and spend a lot more money than budgeted for.”

Moratti served as Inter owner and president between 1995 and 2013 and steered the club through one of the most successful periods in their history, including the famous triplete victory.
