Inter Now Prioritizing Icardi & Skriniar’s Contract Renewals

Mauro Icardi and Milan Skriniar are the two players who Inter are prioritizing in terms of extending their contracts. In today’s paper edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, the Milano-based newspaper gives some insight into the current status of the renewal talks starting with the Inter captain: “Mauro’s entourage, after qualification for the Champions League, expected an immediate recognition of the strikers contributions, with a leap in salary.”

The renewal seemed almost a formality, but Inter wanted to take things slow, in order to focus on improving the squad and because Wanda’s demands for €8 million net per season were a bit out of reach. Mauro and Wanda then went on holiday, but now everyone is back and the new season has started, both parties have gone back to the negotiation table. Inter have always expressed how important Icardi is and that position in the team is absolutely fixed, so with this in mind, Inter are willing to increase his salary to around €5-6 million a year, with an extension to 2023. Then there is the question of how much he would get from bonuses. In a nutshell, the only delay is an agreement on his salary, because there are no concerns with either parties willingness to go forward.

On the other hand, the situation with Skriniar is slightly different as the Gazzetta reports: “It was originally thought that the renewal was ready to be announced, but in reality, Inter rejected the proposal put on the table by his agents, which now means he’s actually further behind Icardi.”

The former Sampdoria defender currently earns €1.7 million per year, so the salary is destined to rise slightly from 2019, but Inter also want to extend his stay. In the meetings held last season, Inter offered a 50% increase in his salary, taking it up to €2.5 million net per season expiring in June 2023.

However, Skriniar’s agent, Karol Csonto, rejected this and demanded that the salary must be raised to €3 million per season. With the recent interest from top European clubs, such as Manchester United, who offered Inter €65 million in the Summer, it means that the agent has the upper hand. The negotiation is definitely not over, but as of now there is not much discussion, so there is still plenty of work to do. Naturally, it should pick up again once Icardi has been dealt with,
