The past few weeks have no doubt been difficult for Inter winger Antonio Candreva. Seemingly unfancied by Inter management, who were happy to deal him in the transfer window, he began the season on the bench but he made a real claim for a starting berth with his performance against Bologna and could be granted a start against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League, this according to a report from Tuttosport.

While on the wrong side of 30 and having younger more suited alternatives to Spalletti’s system ahead of him in Matteo Politano and Keita Balde, one thing Candreva has up on the others is his experience.

Spalletti could rely on the Italian international when Tottenham come to San Siro next Tuesday to begin the Champions League campaign.

Since arriving from Lazio in the summer of 2016, the 31-year-old has tallied 19 assists and could be called upon to help club captain Mauro Icardi open his goal scoring account for the season on the biggest stage.
