In the eyes of Gazzetta dello Sport, Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa is back but this is unlikely to see him gain a place in the Inter team and if anything only helps Inter make a profit on him.

Arriving as one of the hottest prospects in world football, Gabigol failed to deliver for the Nerazurri and was soon shipped out to Benfica where he again failed to live up to the huge expectations placed on his shoulders.

In 40 games since returning to Santos, Gabigol has scored 20 goals across all competitions and is playing the best football of his career but despite this, Luciano Spalletti does not see a space for him in his squad.

Come the January transfer window it is unlikely that a permanent solution will be found for the 22-year-old but something not so unlikely is Inter’s chances of making a capital gain on him. In January his value will be budgeted at €14.8 million and six months later in the summer it will be €11.8 million. One stumbling block however is his huge €7 million gross annual salary that he receives from Inter, a figure many clubs are unlikely to meet for a player who has failed in Europe at two different clubs.
