Inter transfer target Toby Alderweireld has hit out at the media reports that done the rounds over the summer that suggested he was intent on leaving Tottenham Hotspur for pastures new.

“Everyone said I absolutely wanted to leave Tottenham, but it was not true. This summer I quickly realised that Tottenham wanted to keep me,” the Belgian central defender revealed in an interview with Sky Sports news.

“At first I struggled to get my place in the team back but being in the first team again is a big positive for me. Now I am just trying to help Tottenham to the best of my ability. Everything on my future that has been said by the press is not correct.”

The 29-year-old joined his current employers in the summer of 2015 from Southampton and has went on to make over 100 appearances for the north London club since. He currently has just under a year left on his current contract with the club which will no doubt lead to heightened speculation on his future as it continues to run down.
