Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti recalled the night at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu where Inter’s win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final secured the famous triplete.
“The Triplete? For all of us it was an incredible time. We wrote important pages in the history books for Inter and for the Nerazzurri fans alike. My mind often returns to that night in Madrid. When I look at those photos, I almost do not believe I see myself with the trophy in my hands. It was extraordinary.”
Zanetti, who is Inter’s record appearance holder, then spoke on Inter’s return to the Champions League for this year’s edition of the tournament after a six year absence.
“This year we want to improve. We will have to sacrifice to have a sense of belonging and must have the necessary mentality to overcome the moments of difficulty that we will face so we can get back to being competitive.”
