Inter defender Stefan de Vrij has looked ahead to Tuesday night’s Champions League opener for Inter wherein they will play host to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.

“I hope it is a good experience and already thinking about hearing the Champions League anthem gives me goosebumps. I do not think any of the other teams wanted Inter and that flatters us, it would be great to get out of the group,” he said in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

The Dutch defender then spoke on coming up against Harry Kane and Lionel Messi in the group stages when Inter face Tottenham and Barcelona respectively.

“Harry Kane is one of the strongest strikers in the world therefore it will be tough for me, but also for him. I faced Lionel Messi before at the World Cup in Brazil. I faced him in the semi-finals and, before Argentina went on to win on penalties, the game finished 0-0.”
