Inter captain Mauro Icardi’s desire to play could make all the difference to whether he starts or not in Saturday’s game at home to Parma, Gazzetta dello Sport detail.

Manager Luciano Spalletti is looking to make Inter less Icardi dependant and allowing him to rest in view of the Champions League game with Tottenham Hotspur would allow him to test if Inter can survive without him.

The striker – whose goals will no doubt play a vital part in the Nerazzurri’s success this season – will only return to training at Appiano Gentile tomorrow having completed his international commitments with Argentina.

Reports doing the rounds in the media suggest that Keita Balde will be entrusted with leading the line over Icardi but Icardi’s desire to play in spite of his lack of training this week could sway manager Spalletti’s mind to chose him instead for the match with the Ducali. Moreover, Icardi has proven to be back to top condition over the international break that will no doubt add weight to his cause when it comes to wanting to play.
