Roma are understood to be leading the race to sign Hector Herrera according to a report from Rome based newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The Mexican international midfielder has under a year left on his contract with Portuguese giants Porto and as a result has a wealth of interest in his services.

Roma are ahead of the likes of Inter, Arsenal, Paris St Germain and Barcelona in the race to sign the 28-year-old and as per the report could look to sign him at a cut price fee in January instead of waiting until the summer to sign him for nothing.

The report goes on to specify that the main factor behind Roma’s advantage in the race is the fact that they have already received approval from the Herrera himself about moving to the Stadio Olimpico. Moreover, Roma defender Hector Moreno is at work on convincing his compatriot to join him in the Italian capital.
