In today’s paper edition of the newspaper, Rome based Corriere dello Sport has decided to highlight one key statistic that shows how far Inter have grown, and that statistic is ball possession.

According to the report: “This year’s Inter have very clear ideas. The amount of time spent on the ball shows how this team really is the anti-Juve. Inter have had an average of 63.8% ball possession so far, only the current champions have done better. So far Inter are doing much better in terms of possession than they did last year showing that Luciano Spalletti is really trying to put quality of play as a priority.”

In Bologna it was very evident that Inter were dominating by having a 66% possession rate and it was no coincidence that this happened during Radja Nainggolan’s first match. The Belgian midfielder will really be the pivot for Inter this season.

“The arrivals of Vrsaljko, Politano, and Keita increase the overall technical abilities of the team along with Brozovic who helps control the pace of the game as directed by Spalletti.”

Last year Inter finished in third place in terms of possession, behind Juventus and Napoli, this year Inter is trying to build and improve on that.
