Andrea Ranocchia has described San Siro as ‘the perfect stadium’ ahead of Inter’s match at home to Parma this weekend, while also claiming that the Nerazzurri represent the city of Milan more than local rivals Milan.

Ranocchia was interviewed for the club’s official match-day program on Saturday as Serie A returns from the first international break of the season, in which he also discussed the start of his professional career and his life away from football.

“We’re the team of Milan,” he said. “San Siro is the perfect stadium and the Interisti’s choreography displays are the best in Italy. They really fire us up.

“I’ll always remember the first goal I scored against Sporting Bastia: it was the first tournament I had played outside my home region. I remember scoring a penalty and lifting the cup.

“The first goal of my professional career also came from a penalty: it was in Arezzo-Udinese with Morgan De Sanctis in goal. And then there was my first goal for Inter, when I scored against Cagliari with my hip. It was a decisive goal and an unbelievable feeling.

“I spent most of my spare time with my son [Lorenzo]. I missed him a lot during pre-season training: we did a lot of video calls to keep in touch.

“My favourite artist is Jovanotti: I grew up with his music and I’ve since been lucky enough to meet him. I even gave him an Inter shirt as a present a while ago.”
