Despite playing in an unfamiliar role at right back and despite opponents with decidedly more pace in Son and Lucas Moura, against Tottenham we nevertheless saw a determined and leading Milan Skriniar.

It is no secret that Inter has refused two €65 million offers for their prized centre back in the last nine months, Tuttosport reports. The first, in January 2018, had come from Manchester City, then it was the turn of the other Manchester side, ready to offer a contract of over €4 Million per season.

Ausilio believes that the Slovakian cannot be worth less than Van Dijk, the Dutch defender for whom Liverpool paid €85 million last January to buy him from Southampton. An assessment that seems unthinkable when you remember how much Sampdoria paid to Zilina to bring Skriniar to Italy in January 2016, just €1 million. Today Skriniar is worth 80 times more than that and another good season in Italy, combined perhaps with a good path in the Champions League, could allow Inter to raise the bar even more.

The renewal remains in discussion. The downside in such a situation is obviously in the economic demands that the entourage of Skriniar is putting to the Nerazzurri management – explains TuttoSport – Inter since last summer has started to discuss with the Skriniar’s, proposing a renewal until 2023 with a fixed salary raised from the current €1.2 Million (€1.7 with bonus) to €2.5 Million plus bonuses, but on the other hand the demand is higher.

There is talk of €3.5 Million for the fixed part and for weeks there doesn’t seem to be a conclusion to these discussions, and Ausilio has not shown concern, after all the expiration of the current agreement is not until 2022 and Skriniar does not have a minimum fee release clause.

Above all Skriniar – who when asked about the renewal on Monday said “we are talking, but I’m calm and now the priorities are the matches” – has so far always shown his desire to stay at Inter.
