According to WhoScored, during the game against Sampdoria, half of Inter’s shots came from players who were not attackers. Excluding Mauro Icardi, Matteo Politano and Antonio Candreva (plus the substitute Ivan Perisic, who did not take any shots last night) 50% of the attempts came from non-attackers.

16 shots were made in total, eight of which came from Skriniar, D’Ambrosio, Nainggolan, Vecino, Borja Valero, and Brozovic. This is an important statistic considered that one of the biggest criticisms that Inter received last season was that there was not enough variety in the players taking shots. Even the game-winning goal came from a midfielder, Marcelo Brozovic.

Last season a vast majority of Inter’s shots and goals came almost exclusively from Ivan Perisic and Mauro Icardi (Antonio Candreva also had many attempts on goal, but failed to score a single goal last season.) This a huge difference as Inter are clearly less reliant on their forwards and are encouraging more players to try and score, which adds a level of unpredictability for their opponents.
