Cagliari boss Rolando Maran described Inter as ‘a solid team’ following his side’s 2-0 defeat to the Nerazzurri on Saturday.

Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Matteo Politano secured a third win in a week for Luciano Spalletti’s men as they moved up to fourth in the Serie A table, but Maran was satisfied with the performance his side had produced at San Siro.

“We put in a good performance,” he told DAZN after the match. “It’s not easy to play Inter at San Siro and it’s not easy to score against them, because they’re a solid team.

“We played the match we wanted to play though. The team did what I had wanted them to do, with commitment. The game was always in the balance, in the second half we caused them a few problems.”

Maran then went on to praise midfielder Nicolo Barella, a player Inter were linked with in the summer: “he has incredible technique and dynamism and he always produces every weekend.

“He has the right kind of character, I think he’ll have a great career.”
