Inter legend Roberto Boninsegna has revealed he would like to see Inter strikers Lautaro Martinez and Mauro Icardi tried as a partnership in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The idea of seeing the two Argentinians as a striking partnership is very exciting. It is certainly difficult to make the two players coexist but I am convinced that it can be tried. To see Lautaro and Mauro together, Spalletti must change the system as the one he is using currently means there is no room for both of them. With 4-4-2 or 5-3-2 they could coexist and their characteristics could be exploited well.”

Boninsegna, who played for Inter between 1969 and 1976, then spoke on Lautaro’s performance in the win over Cagliari that seen the starlet notch his first Inter goal.

“I really enjoyed him against Cagliari and it was certainly not easy for him. The young Argentinian did everything right, he sacrificed himself for the team and also scored a nice goal at the first opportunity.”
