Luciano Spalletti made no less than six changes to the Inter line-up on Saturday, a feat last seen in April 2016 when Roberto Mancini was in charge according to a report from Corriere dello Sport.
This time last year Inter started five consecutive games with the exact same side and in the following two games only one change was made. Spalletti did of course have no real choice back then with a smaller squad with much worse players in the wings as replacements.
After a busy summer transfer window, the former Roma manager, can now afford to chop and change when he wishes in order to allow the bona fide starters to get rest in view of the bigger games such as those in the Champions League. Against Cagliari, Spalletti had Mauro Icardi, Matias Vecino, Kwadwo Asamoah, Ivan Perisic, Marcelo Brozovic and Milan Skriniar all on the bench yet Inter’s rotated squad still dealt with Cagliari with relative ease.
