In an interview with Inter TV Inter manager Luciano Spalletti urged his team not to give up despite taking another big step toward qualifying for the next round of the Champions League after the 2-1 win over PSV.

“We can not give up because the group is very difficult and there are still four games to play. Difficulty is just around the corner for us in the Champions League. We have shown good character and we must not give an inch to opposition because we have to be on our toes, ready to react to any mistakes they make.”

“We had started very well and there was nothing to suggest that we would go behind. The team continued with the same attitude of conviction and were rewarded for this. When they press you hard you allow them to make dangerous counter attacks. We suffered with their balls behind our defensive line, they launched the ball systematically in a very fast way. A couple of times we had to escape a little bit sooner than expected.”

Spalletti then spoke on the defence’s performance at the Philips Stadion.

“De Vrij and Skriniar were perfect but Asamoah and D’Ambrosio had some danger but in one against one situations they held up until the end.”

Spalletti concluded the interview by insisting Inter’s work is by no means done despite having a six point gap on third and fourth place in the group.

“It is better to have 6 points after two matches but when the team start making their calculations [about how they can get through] the alarm bells ring and then you don’t act with the same conviction against your opponents.”
