Inter Manager Spalletti: “Our Ability To React Is Very Important”

Inter manager Luciano Spalletti spoke with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport following Inter’s 2-1 win over SPAL which took Inter’s winning streak to six games.

“We made four changes and perhaps risked a little by playing Vrsaljko because D’Ambrosio had a little problem. The players did well, holding firmly but in some circumstances we lost the ball too much and we did not find the free man with passes.

“The initial idea was to get on top of our opponents straight away and suffocate their play. At times we did it well, at others we were forced to drop too deep. They’re a very strong side physically, they’re all good runners and they’re dangerous from set pieces. The team showed character against a side that had a lot of intensity When you recover and get back the tactical advantage you have to move the ball well. Borja Valero in particular did it very well.”

Spalletti then spoke on Keita Balde who was again given another chance to impress from the first whistle.

“He is strong and he has a lot of speed. He has the ability to recover and tear you to pieces but then there’s some times when he is out of position otherwise he would be an exceptional player.”

He then spoke on Inter’s ability to react which has been showcased over the past few games.

“The reaction after their equaliser was immediate, we went to go and get the three points and this is a characteristic that few sides have. We need to keep this because it’s really important.”

Spalletti concluded the interview by speaking on whether Inter could gradually begin to play with two strikers.

“Yes it can happen but when there is the need to drop back in games we need someone else in the midfield. Tonight Icardi had to come back and he lost the ball sometimes but he is improving in this aspect. I speak with him often and tell him stories.”
