Former Inter President Massimo Moratti was interviewed by Italian media outlet RMC Sport on a wide variety of issues, ranging from the idea of his becoming the President of the Italian FA to Calciopoli.

The legendary former Nerazzurri President began by answering about the rumors that he could be the next President of the Italian FA, the FIGC, stating that: “It was a very nice thing suggested by Andrea Agnelli, it was very brave. It was something that could have created problems with some of the fans instead it was a very nice move that I think could, from one aspect, erase some of the anger after Calciopoli. The story itself remains but not the bitterness and rancor.”

“I didn’t think it would have been right to accept this candidacy, sweeping away those who had worked and collected the votes. My relationship with Agnelli has always been civil and affectionate. I have known him since he was a small boy. To continue with the controversy was also pretty boring” Moratti continues.

The former Inter President then continued by talking about his former team: “After the first few matches I was certainly disappointed and I was afraid that the team could not live up to the expectations in the league, then the turnaround came with Tottenham which gave confidence and put the hopes of fans and the club back on track. Inter is demonstrating to have character, then the players are there. So if they play well, if they are able to play better, I think they can go for the best in order to finish as high up the standings as possible.”

Moratti was then asked if Juventus could win the treble: “They have the determination, a compactness of a team that makes you think they can do great things. But the treble is never easy because many different things have to come together at once, even if this Juventus has what it takes to try.”

The former Inter supremo was asked about the rumors about former Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta coming to Inter to which he replied: “I do not make these choices but I respect Marotta a lot. He was good both before and after his experience with Juventus, he is a balanced person that knows how to do his job well, I would appreciate it a lot at Inter.”

Moratti continued by talking about Icardi as a captain comparing him to previous Inter captains stating that: “The predecessor is Zanetti, who had another way of doing it. Icardi, is in my opinion, a captain because he has learned to be one, he is protective and always has a smile on his face. And then he drags the team forwards with his goals.”

In conclusion Moratti was asked about José Mourinho returning to Italy: “He certainly should come back [laughs]. I think Mourinho has always had quality and a strong character. Surely sometimes football betrays you, I saw the match against Benitez’ Newcastle and I saw a test of character by the team that can be a point of restart. We will see Mourinho strong again.”
