Speaking in the mixed zone at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia, Inter striker Lautaro Martinez spoke about his performance during the match against Iraq where he netted his first goal for the national team.

The Nerazzurri striker stated that: “Obviously it is great to score. It was important for me to find a goal today as I was the starting striker. We achieved a good result, but we must keep working to improve” FcInterNews reports.

The 21 year old played 58’ minutes before being replaced by Giovanni Simeone, but was happy just to return to the pitch: “I missed the last Argentina games due to injury. This was a decision made by the Argentine medical staff, in consultation with Inter. I recovered well back in Italy. Now we must face Brazil. This will not be an easy game but we will prepare to face them at our best. The game will be special – everyone knows this.”

Argentine reporters then asked Il Toro if he specifically requested to play alongside Inter team mate Mauro Icardi. “For now I am not playing at Inter because of the formation we are using. The coach wants to maintain the set-up to make us a stable team. I will always try to do the best job in order to improve myself as a player and achieve my goals. When I am asked to play, I will always be ready. Here in the national team I have spoken to Scaloni and given my opinions. But the decision of our set up rests with him entirely – he is the coach.”
