Former Roma chief executive Umberto Gandini has spoken on next weekend’s Milan derby in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

“Italian football lost a lot without the Milan clubs. Inter’s overpowering return last year and Milan this year has brought great interest around Serie A again, which can also boast a player like Cristiano Ronaldo. The year started slowly for both of them, then they got back on track,” Gandini said.

Gandini, who recently left his post with the Giallorossi then labelled Inter as the favourites for the first Milan derby of the season.

“I think those present at the San Siro will see a great game and it is easy to say that the Nerazzurri are favourites for it even if their manager Luciano Spalletti will not be happy with what I am saying.”

The Milan derby is to take place next Sunday with kick-off scheduled for 20:30 CET.
