Lazio owner and president Claudio Lotito has joked with Il Messaggero about the pending contract renewals of several stars of the Stadio Olimpico club.

“You got fooled by Inter and now you have come to me to ask for more money?,” he joked when asked what he has said to players he is handling renewals for such as goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha and striker Luis Alberto.

The Inter mention is of course a reference to that night in May where Lazio blew their chances of Champions League qualification for this season. They took an early lead through an own-goal by Inter’s Ivan Perisic. Inter then answered but then went behind again. With little under 15 minutes to go, a spirited Inter fought back from behind again and would take a lead with 10 minutes to spare through Matias Vecino and the result sent them back to the Champions League at the expense of the Rome based club.
