Zlatan Ibrahimovic has leapt to the defence of former Inter boss Jose Mourinho, hinting that his critics are simply jealous of the Special One’s career.

Mourinho is coming under increasing scrutiny at Manchester United after overseeing the club’s worst start to league campaign in almost 30 years, but eased speculation over his future with a rousing come-from-behind win against Newcastle before the international break.

“We did a fantastic job at Inter together,” Ibrahimovic told Sky Sport. “Then our paths crossed again at United and that was a beautiful experience too.

“There’s all this pressure on him because everyone wants to be number one, but only one man can become that.

“Jose is doing a good job but a manager is always reliant on his team. The results so far this year speak for themselves but you have these periods in a season.

“The Premier League isn’t easy but if there’s one man who knows how to win it, it’s him. Like he said himself, Mourinho has won more Premier League titles than the rest of the league’s managers put together.”
