Former Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin spoke exclusively to Italian media outlet TMW about the upcoming Derby della Madonnina as well as his time at the club as a whole.

The Shanghai Greenland Shenhua midfielder is happy with life in China stating that: “I feel really good here in China. Shanghai is a beautiful city, I’ve been here for almost three years and every day I feel more and more comfortable. Now I have made my life here. The team is doing well, we are always staying true to the expectations that are always present. I am happy and calm, both on a human and professional level.”

Guarin then spoke about leaving Italy for China stating that: “Everything changed, but Italy is still somehow a part of me. I have been following Italian football since the day I left Inter. The Serie A is absolutely the championship that I watch the most.”

The former Porto midfielder then turned to Sunday’s derby against AC Milan to which he replied: “The derby, we all know, is always a special game. I hope that Inter will be able to win, for my former team-mates, for the club and for all the fans. I see the team is doing well this season and are very motivated. Spalletti has built a very strong relationship with his players and the match on Sunday will therefore be a beautiful game to play and to experience.”

Guarin was then asked about his own memories of playing in the Derby della Madonnina stating that: “I have a lot of memories linked to Inter, the goal in the derby is undoubtedly one of my best moments in a Nerazzurri shirt. I can still feel the embrace from my teammates, the fans’ shouting of joy, the adrenaline, the emotions I felt. I will always carry it with me, as well as my debut against Genoa at the Meazza and my first goal against Vaslui in the Europa League preliminaries.”

In conclusion Guarin was asked if he has though about returning to Inter to which he replied: “It’s clear, I’ve always thought about going back to Inter, since leaving the club in January 2016. I’ve always been in contact with the Nerazzurri, I often speak with Ausilio, with Zanetti, but I also spoke to Moratti and Thohir. If there will is an opportunity to come back, I wouldn’t think twice. I felt at home in Milano, for me Inter is a family, passion and love. I left a piece of my heart there and I would even go back to play for free [laughs].”
