Football is both the present and future of Milan Skriniar and in a recent interview reported by Tvoniny.sk, the central defender revealed that he would like to try his hand at management once his playing career comes to an end: “I would like to stay in the world of football and share my experiences, perhaps as a manager.”

The Slovakian went on to reflect on his past and the difficulties he encountered at the beginning of his career: “At the start I did not play because I had back problems. I was completely stuck because when you are not playing, you begin to think about other things. You forget about the joy of playing and you lose confidence. The turning point for me was a change of coach. I saw black become coloured. The most important advice I can give is to be patient and to learn to endure difficulties. If, after that complicated moment, I had given up on my goal then I would never have the life I do now. Everything is defined by your will. You must know what you want, and never let it go. If you want something in the future, you must be prepared to give everything.”

Skriniar also talks about the disposition of the younger players he has come across in the world of football: “Many young players understand that they must commit themselves to football if they want to succeed, but they may not always receive the support of their families which is important. I think the loss of talent can also be attributed to the changing society which we live in. Now, when you look on the streets or in courtyards, there are no more boys playing with a ball.”

Finally, the 23 year old discussed his eye operation which took place last summer: “I could not see well from afar, so I visited Dr Smoradkova in Bratislava. He told me that my sight was only 40% of what it should be. I decided on the surgery, and it feels like my vision has improved 150%!”
