Inter Coach Spalletti: “We Cannot Afford To Become Arrogant Against Barcelona”

On the eve of the Barcelona match, Inter coach Luciano Spalletti spoke to InterTV about his team’s approach going into the important group stage clash at the Camp Nou.

Spalletti was asked about Barcelona’s great history to which he replied: “We have an important history too, but we do not bring our history or what we did three days ago to this game. We must be a great team, have an extraordinary self-esteem and be good at managing the ball.”

The style of play of the Blaugrana is almost the same as many years ago?

“The backbone is always the same and the management goes looking for similar players. If you give the ball to players of that level, sooner or later they will find the space to hurt you. We will have to know how to handle the ball and try not to give it back, because they are dangerous in possession.”

How is this challenge tackled after the derby?

“We have to start from scratch: the fact that you can play good matches against great opponents, as happened on Sunday with Milan, must give us encouragement. Then it is clear that being aware of not feeling inferior should not turn into arrogance.”
