According to UEFA’s official rankings, Italian football is once again gaining ground with respect to other top European leagues.

Milano based nespaper Gazzetta dello Sport reports that for the first time in a long while, Italian clubs are playing the role of “Spanish pursuers” in a head-to-head with those representing the English Premier League and with German clubs lagging well behind.

Being among the top-4 leagues in Europe is enough for the Italian Serie-A to have 4 of its clubs feature in the UEFA Champions League (at least until 2021), “but why settle for that” asks the Milan-based daily?

With respect to Inter particularly, the Gazzetta underlined the fact that the Nerazzurri could not have had a more difficult test than they did last Wednesday, when they faced Barcelona in the Nou Camp. It progresses to argue that despite this, Inter were able to demonstrate that they are improving, displaying moments of solidity akin to that of a great club and not being beaten easily.

Gazzetta dello Sport continues to argue that if Inter had a natural play-maker (regista), such as Luca Modric, Fabinho, Ceballos, Verratti or Kovacic, the Nerazzurri could go far in the Champions League. Having said that, the paper also underlines the fact that Marcelo Brozovic’s contributions in that midfield role this season, are nothing short of miraculous.
