Despite the modern phenomenon of playing a false nine, Inter stuck with the traditional number nine outlook and it has bore fruit in the eyes of La Repubblica who have taken a look at Nerazzurri number nine Mauro Icardi.

Icardi is averaging a goal every 29 touches of the ball, a very impressive stat indeed. However, Borussia Dortmund’s Paco Alcacer, based upon this season’s stats, is the best number nine in the world currently having scored 10 goals with each coming after an average of 14 touches.

This term, Icardi has found the back of the net eight times in 11 games across all competitions, five of which have come in his past three league outings, wherein he has scored two braces against SPAL and Lazio respectively either side of a Milan derby winning goal.

The 25-year-old has been a prolific scorer since transferring to Inter back in 2013 and has 115 goals in 193 appearances for Inter.
