Former Inter midfielder Andy Van der Meyde had well publicised problems during his playing career and spoke about them in a revealing interview that focused upon the biggest fine he received.

“I always behaved well at Inter, but not with Everton,” he admitted in an interview with Voetbal International, a news outlet from his native Netherlands.

“The biggest fine I ever got was €45,000. I didn’t show up for training one day. That David Moyes hated me, didn’t he? I was fined €45,000, I did not call or anything because I just could not face it. I was just in a state of mind where everything was bad and nothing was good.”

The Dutchman then spoke on what lead to him missing training that day and having to face the manager.

“I went out drinking and the next day I did not feel like training so I stayed at home. The next day I had to go in and see the manager. I had to go into his office and he told me: ‘you’re getting fined €45,000’. They just deducted it from my salary.”
