Ernesto Valverde was interviewed in the post-game press conference after his team’s victory against Rayo Vallecano and was questioned about Tuesday’s Champions League game against Inter and the possible presence of Lionel Messi, who has missed the last few games through injury.

“We will see how he is, I do not know if he will be there. We will see how he feels during training tomorrow,” Valverde said.

He was then asked if Messi’s absence was the reason behind Luis Suarez’s up turn in form with him scoring five in the three games that Messi has missed.

“Luis Suarez plays better without him? We all play better with Messi,” Valverde assured the gathered media.

Messi injured his arm in the 4-2 win over Sevilla two weeks ago and resumed training during the week but it remains to be seen whether or not the multi-time world player of the year will manage to feature, even if only from the bench.
