Diego Simeone has previously made it very clear that one day he wishes to manage Inter but that day seems far away as per a report from Spanish newspaper Marca who detail that he is set to sign a new contract with Atletico Madrid.

Simeone previously negotiated a reduction in contract length around the time Inter were looking for a new manager in the lead up to Luciano Spalletti’s appointment but now looks set to remain working with the Spanish capital club at least for the next few years.

The contract renewal will make the former Argentine midfielder the highest paid person at the club, even above star man Antoine Griezmann.

As part of the contract, the 48-year-old, who has been their manager since 2011, will push to have an exit clause inserted which will allow him to leave before the expiration of his contract, which currently runs through to the end of the 2019/20 season.
