Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez will start up top for the Argentine national team in their friendly with Mexico this weekend a report from Argentine news outlet El Tribuno details.

The Inter pair will play as the front two in interim manager Lionel Scaloni’s 4-3-1-2 system and will have Juventus’ Paulo Dybala playing in behind them for the match at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes in Cordoba.

Saturday’s game will present them with the perfect opportunity to show Inter manager Luciano Spalletti that they are capable of playing as a striking partnership. Should they find success playing together, it could lead to them playing together at Inter on a more regular basis. They showed promising signs during pre-season but have had little to no chance of building upon that since competitive action began in August.

Icardi has been Spalletti’s preferred striker in the 4-2-3-1 system typically used and Lautaro Martinez has been used sparingly.
