Ahead of Argentina’s two friendlies with Mexico over the international break, Inter striker Mauro Icardi has spoken on the current situation of La Albiceleste.

“I am always together with Lautaro, we are trying to give something of our own to create something important in this cycle for the national team. We are all young guys who are starting this adventure and we are very happy and proud to represent the country. We hope to be able to play good games because from here to the Copa America as there is only the March international break. We need to continue with what we are doing. I hope to do the best I can, in my club I am the captain but the base of everything is the team. I am the attacker, I have to score and I will try to do it.

“I have not scored but I am calm because we are creating something good. All the guys are giving everything to get in the best way possible.”

Icardi then spoke on national team manager Lionel Scaloni.

“He is a manager, from what that I saw in these first games, who brings enthusiasm and deserves this opportunity. Who knows if he won’t be here in March and then even for the Copa America. He wants all players to do what they are doing for their clubs and this is a plus because we do not have to change a lot.”
