After a rocky start to the season in which many believed that Samir Handanovic was declining, he is now back to being the foundation that Inter have been relying on for these past few years and Corriere dello Sport have discussed the importance that Handanovic has carried for Inter.
Without Handanovic, Inter would not have gotten the fundamental victory against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. Handanovic has been able to consistently and continuously put up great performances in which he was the difference maker. Before the game against Atalanta, in which Inter conceded four goals, the Nerazzurri had only conceded six goals in the previous 11 games.
The Slovenian’s contract expires in 2021 and when the time comes for Samir to leave Inter, an heir will have to be brought in and will have big shoes to fill. For now, Inter can focus on strengthening other parts of the squad as they know they have a keeper they can rely on.
