Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic has revealed that had it been the World Cup final that Croatia were contesting in against England at the weekend he would not have taken Sime Vrsaljko off the field.

The Inter full back was forced to leave the field of play after just 27 minutes of play as a result of injury and thankfully after being medically assessed the injury does not appear to be too serious.

“After a collision, Vrsaljko felt muscular pain and our initial idea was to prevent the situation wherein we would have to take him off the field. As he demonstrated during the World Cup and when he wearing Inter shirt, he can play in difficult situations and close matches out at a high level,” he said in an interview with the Croatian FA’s official website.

“If our game at Wembley had been the final of the World Cup, we would not have replaced him, but we did not take the risk because we wanted to be honest both with both him and his club.”
