Frank de Boer failed at Inter because he did not have enough time in pre-season to explain his footballing ideas, a former member of his coaching staff claimed today.

Michele Santoni was part of the former Barcelona defender’s coaching team during his disastrous three-month spell with the Nerazzurri in 2016, which saw De Boer sacked after just 83 days as Inter languished in the bottom half of the table.

“We had 80 wonderful days and three terrible days,” Santoni told Sky Sport at the Wyscout Forum in Amsterdam.

“Inter are a splendid club where we could do whatever we wanted, but ultimately the two parties had different visions.

“On the one hand Frank has a Dutch footballing philosophy and needed a pre-season training program to put it into practice; on the other, Inter are a club that have to win at all times.”

Inter currently lie third in the Serie A standings and will look to put last Sunday’s defeat to Atalanta behind them when they face Frosinone at San Siro this weekend.
