Inter vice-president and club legend Javier Zanetti recalled the dream he had upon joining Inter upon receiving the ‘Ambasciatore della Grande Milano nel Mondo 2018’ award for his ambassadorial work for the city of Milan.

“What is my most beautiful memory related to the city of Milan? My arrival, it was under a universal flood. I was waiting on Giacinto Facchetti, Luis Suarez, Sandro Mazzola and Giuseppe Bergomi…characters that have made the history of this club and I dreamed of becoming like them, they also say that rain brings good luck,” he revealed in an interview with Inter TV.

Zanetti joined Inter from Banfield in his native Argentina and went on to spend some 19 years on the books of the Nerazzurri, in the process of which he became the record appearance holder at the club with an almighty 858 across all competitions, 102 more than second placed Bergomi. Zanetti’s number four jersey was retired in his honour once he called time on his career back in 2014.
